Great Colossus
O great colossus so majestic grand
arising sheer from out of sea and sand,
and at your pot the tavern of the seas
the portal to the hinterland one sees.
Once called the fairest cape of all
your bastions rising stately tall
where natures grandeur fill abounds
the cradle out of which a new tongue sounds.
So broad of brow on which a swirling cloud
does rest so lightly like a veil or shroud.
A challenge for the budding mountaineer
to venture up ravines and gorges sheer,
but still a sight to gladden every eye
who views it from the sea or land or sky.
A welcome for the weary homewood bound
from parts afar the world around.
